Black Sticky Rice is dark coloured like wild rice.  Also called black glutinous rice, it is short grained and sticky when fully cooked.

  • Appearance & Texture: It is a short-grain rice that is very sticky and chewy. The bran layer is dark purple, not truly black, and it retains this color while creating a creamy texture when cooked.
  • Flavor Profile: It has a distinct nutty, slightly sweet taste.
  • Popular Uses:
    • Desserts: Combined with coconut milk, pandan leaves, and palm sugar to make thick puddings or rice porridge (e.g., Pulut Hitam, Bubur Ketan Hitam).
